Magic Mesh Screen Door "As Seen on TV"

Magic Mesh Screen Door "As Seen on TV"

RATING: 3.0

  BRIEF DESCRIPTION

   Screen Mesh
Magic Mesh Hands-free Screen Door Magic Mesh
Magnetic Screen Door Set of 2 Magic Mesh

MY THOUGHTS:

This screen mesh is really a hot mess. But personally for me, after hammering it into the door frame, it worked well. But when it says all you need is the Velcro to hold it in place..... ummmm.. nooo.. The Velcro falls apart and you literally have to hammer it up to the door frame in order for it to work properly. So unless you are willing to keep that mesh on forever, then I would not recommend buying it. The magnetic piece that snap back together to close the net, the net MUST be put on properly in order for it work. So pray that you do not have a wide door frame because it would not work. Also, if it touches the ground, it will not snap together. It has to be on there perfectly. When it is, it works great! Another bad thing is holding the net back so that you can easily walk through if you do not need it. It does not come with a clip to keep it to the side so that it can remain open. So I had to buy a small clip just to keep curtain apart. So yeah.. Another negative But for me though, since I do not have a screen door nor ventilation in my kitchen for when I cook certain food (that smoke up easily), this net was perfect and exactly what I need to keep the flies out of my kitchen during the summer. That perks of living in a mill house but I love this house! :) Also, I could not imagine putting this outside.. The weather would really have it destroyed. That is why I give this item a rating of 3.0.

Roasted Garlic and Parmesan Chicken

Roasted Garlic and Parmesan Chicken

RATING: 9.0/10

For today's meal, I wanted to do something different. I love chicken, whether it is baked or fried but after cooking the same thing over and over again, I wanted to switch it up. I have made in the past flaky chicken but used plain corn flakes and potato flakes. So when I came across this mash potato mix at Walmart, I was like... Hmmmm. What the hay, lets go for it. Let me tell ya.. It turned out very well..

 What you will need:
      - Boneless Skinless Chicken (I recommend using the tenderloin because it is thin sliced but for this picture I used chicken breast)
      - 1 pack of Idahoan Roasted Garlic and Parmesan Mash Potato mix.
      - 1 large can or 2 small cans of Cream of Mushroom soup
      - 1 Cup of milk
      - Stick of butter
      - Shredded Mexican cheese (For topping)
      - Glass or metal pan,
      - Two large bowls

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees

2. Pour 1/2 can (Large can) OR 1 whole can (Small can) into the first bowl and then pour the potato flakes in to the second bowl.

3. With the stick of butter, line the whole pan with butter. The reason I choose butter is because sometimes spray or oil can give it a different taste.

4. Rinse your chicken and coat each one with cream of mushroom soup mix in the first bowl. After it is fully coated, then place the chicken into the second bowl with the potato flakes.

4. When the chicken is mostly covered with flakes, then place it into the pan. Do this with every single chicken until all of it is gone. You should have some cream of mushroom and potato flakes left over. We are going to use it and not waste it.

5. Scoop and pour out the remainder potato flakes into the cream of mushroom bowl. Then you will need to pour the remainder cream of mushroom soup and 1 cup of milk into the mixture. It should be in the middle of being creamy and thick mixture.

6. After you throughly mix the bowl, you will pour the remaining contents into your pan over the chicken. Make sure you lift each piece to ensure that the soup goes under each one.

7. Then place the chicken into the oven. Depending on what type of chicken you used (Chicken Breast or Tenderloin) varies to the amount of time it takes to cook. If you used chicken breast, then it will take about 30 to 35 minutes to cook. If you used TENDERLOIN, it takes about 25 to 30 minutes to cook.

8. When checking the chicken, cut a small piece out. If the chicken is done, at this time, you will need to add the cheese topping to your pan. I used a whole bag of cheese to fully cover everything. Then bake it for about 5 more minutes.

And then your meal should be ready! Enjoy!

MY RATING: 9.5/10

Raters: Me, Amanda Pullum and Brian Ashley

Me: This meal was very good but using whole chicken breasts took away some of the flavor I thought. When I cooked this recipe again using tenderloin, it was much better. 9.5/10 but if used tenderloin it would have gotten a 10/10.

Amanda: I give it a 9.5 because it was very good but agree with Ashley when using chicken breasts in stead of tenderloin.

Brian: I do not like mushroom soup crap but this was really good.. My stomach disagreed with me but it was worth it. 8.5  (Ashley- that is my husband for ya folks..lol)

Extra Olive Oil Dressing Ham with Squash and Green Beans

Extra Olive Oil Dressing Ham with Squash and Green Beans

RATING: 9.0 out of 10

I am not much of a cook other than when Thanksgiving comes around. Every year I host a "Community Thanksgiving dinner" where anyone who is hungry can just come by and grab them a plate. Well this year, I wanted to experiment with the ham that I always cook every year.

What you will need:
   - Ham
   - Extra Olive Oil Salad Dressing
   - Salt/Pepper
   - Butter
   - 2 Squash
   - 1 big can of green beans or 2 small cans.
   - Pan

For my sides I chose corn on cob, small dinner rolls and mac/cheese.

1. Preheat your oven to about 350 degrees. This is where I made my mistake. I put the oven on 400. As result, you see in the picture, my timing was off and it burnt the edges but it was still awesome! lol

2. Grease your pan that you plan to use to cook the ham with butter. Go ahead and add a pinch of salt and pepper to the bottom of the pan. If you want, you can go ahead and chop up your squash and add your green beans and squash to the pan. But leave a spot in the middle so that your ham can go there.

3. Butter your ham really thoroughly and rub salt/pepper on to your ham. After wards, place the ham in the pan.

4. This is where the Extra Olive Oil Salad dressing comes in. After you have placed your ham in the pan, you will need to add two small slices of butter to each side of the ham. Then, you will pour the contents (Only half the bottle)  from your Salad dressing bottle all over the ham until it coats it. You will end up with extra dressing and if you want to use it all, just pour it over the vegetables.

5. Fill the salad dressing bottle up with water, put the lid back on and shake the bottle to mix up the remainder contents. Then you will pour the remaining contents in the pan. Put pan in the oven.

6. I would recommend that you let it cook (If you had the oven preheated this whole time), for about 35 to 45 minutes. Afterwards, take it out of then oven, add your sides and enjoy!

MY RATING: 9.0 out of 10

The reason why I gave this a rating of 9.0 is because this was very good and I loved how the squashed soaked up the flavor. But some parts of it seemed very sweet when I did it the first time (Too much sauce or too much salt maybe). Also, I did not set the oven to the right temperature or correct time of how long it should cook for thus resulting it getting a little burned. But other than that, I really enjoy this recipe and can't wait to try it again for Thanksgiving. :)

Homemade Tacos- Using a Muffin Pan

Homemade Tacos- Using a Muffin Pan
RATING: 6.5/10

One night, the family and I wanted to have some tacos for dinner. Debating to either go to Taco Bell or make some at home, we chose the home option because nothing beats home cooked food. Well that night, I had bought some flour tortillas to make burritos with but wanted to also make my own tacos instead of using the ones out of the box. I found this idea on Pinterest.com. How to make your own tacos at home just by using a muffin pan. The photos shown are before and after results of my meal.

What you will need:
   - Muffin Pan
   - Flour Tortillas
   - Hamburger
   - Chopped Tomatoes (Self cut or Can)
   - Hot Sauce:
       - I used: Louisiana The Perfect Hot Sauce
   - Salt/Pepper

My sides I chose:
   - Whole Potatoes (Can)
   -  Mixed Vegetables (Stoffers)
   -  Pinto beans (Can)

1) Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Then you will need flip the muffin pan as shown in picture one.

2) Spray the whole side with Pam or what ever you may have. You can also butter it if you like but spraying is easier.

3) Place the pan in the oven while the over rack is pulled out as far as it can go. Then you will need to place the tortillas carefully between each muffin slot. This was a little tricky for me at first because I was trying to put them on before I stuck the pan in the oven and when I would move the pan, they would come out. That was when I put the pan in the oven first and it made it a whole lot easier. I think it took about less than 15 minutes to cook but keep an eye on it. When the tips start turning brown, that is how you know it is done.

4) While the tortillas are cooking, get your sauce pan and fry your hamburger. I kept it simple and lined the pan with butter and then cooked my hamburger.

5) When your hamburger gets done, drain the grease. After you do that, then add a pinch of salt and pepper.

6) Add two splashes of hot sauce ( Equals up to three spoon fulls) to the hamburger and then mix.

7) Tomatoes:
    - Option 1: You can either add the tomatoes to your hamburger mixture if everyone in the household likes tomatoes
    - Option 2: You can just cook them in the microwave  and put in a separate bowl. I had to do this option because of the hubby does not like tomatoes.. lol

Then you just put them together and wha la! Your food is ready. You can choose any sides you want but I listed the sides I used just to show what we had that night.

My rating: 6.5/10

The reason why rated this a 6.5 is mainly because of the taco shells. One of the main reasons why tacos are good is because of the type of shell you use. Whether it is soft or crunchy. Making home made shells in this manner was a cool idea but the resulting factor was not the greatest. I did have some difficulty on adjusting the shells and they still turned out different. I think next time, I will soak the tortillas in eggs and seasoning to see if it can give it more flavor. Also the tortillas that I got did not taste right. They were really doughy. That is what I get for buying a off brand. I think I will go with the name brand to try it out. But the method of using the back of a muffin pan was pretty neat but turned out oddly shaped and were hard to eat on. But the meal in general was still pretty good. Again.. Nothing beats home cooked meal.

National Lampoon's The Legend of Awesomest Maximus

- Comedy -
Director: Jeff Kanew

RATING: 7.5/10

THESIS

Comedy based on the movie 300, the main character goes on a journey to bring honor to the king (Father in Law) and if he succeeds, he will possibly gain the crown. Filled with lots of sexual content (Gay and Straight), this movie is not your typical 300 comedy but makes awkwardness into laughter.

MY THOUGHTS

Wow.. Wow.. lol  This movie was funny, weird and just plain.. stupid.. But again... in a weird and funny kinda way. Yes.. It is making fun of the movie 300 but it is also filled with a lot of sexual content. Both straight and gay.. Mostly gay which made it even hilarious!! I don't how to explain it but if you have gay male friends that are more like queens, then you know how hilarous and drama queen like they can sometimes be which is awesome! There was some parts of the movie I thought was just stupid and boring. And also, there was indeed some points of the film, I fast forwarded because again.. It was stupid.. I would actually suggest someone to watch this movie and would prob watch it again. But due to was ridiculous some of the scenes were, the plot line being kinda poor and thinking they could've shortened it to make it better, that is why it got a Rating of 7.5/10

Spicy and Seasoned Chicken

Spicy and Seasoned Chicken Legs  (Not Actual Picture.. Chicken was in different pan)

Rating: 8.5/10

Here lately... I have been trying to come up with some creative and cheap ways to make even the simplest food into yummy masterpieces... Well... in my mind anyways.. In order to be able to do this, I refuse to go grocery shopping unless there is almost no food in the house. With the exception of always making sure I have milk, eggs, bread, and cereal. So that is where my creation of the spicy and seasoned chicken legs came from.

Ingredients:
- Chicken Legs
- Extra Olive Oil Salad Dressing
- Salt/Pepper (Palm Full for each)
- Texas Pete Hot Sauce
- Seasoned Salt

All you have to do is place the legs in a pan, mix the Extra Olive Oil salad dressing, Salt/Pepper and 1/2 cup of Texas Pete (Or more if you want it hotter) in a bowl. Then pour the mixture all over the the chicken legs. Then afterwards, you sprinkle seasoned salt all over the chicken.. Not too much or it may be too salty. Just enough to gain some top layer. Bake in the oven at 400 degrees and it takes about 45minutes or so.

These ingredients was simply things I randomly found in my cabinets or fridge. You can use any sides for this but I used mac/cheese and mash potatoes.. But next time, I think I am going to make some homemade potato salad to go with this. .. YUM!

So why did I have give this a rating of 8.5? Only because the chicken was good, very moist and had a wonderful flavor. But I think that if I was to soak the chicken in the mixture listed above over night, it would have enhanced the flavor greatly. And I personally think it would be so much better if I used this mixture using boneless skinless chicken. But don't get wrong.. the chicken legs turned out really good.

Movie Reivew: Beauty and the Beast (2010) Fantasy R

"Beauty and the Beast"
2010

Director: David Lister
Writer: Gavin Scott

RATING: 4/10

THESIS:

A dark twist on the morality tale of forbidden love between beautiful Belle and the feared forest Beast. As villagers are being brutally murdered and the Beast is hunted down as the one responsible for the mayhem, Belle and Beast team up to defeat the real killer the power-hungry witch's malevolent troll.

MY THOUGHTS:

Lets get down to the point.. This movie has a really good story plot but that was the only thing that was good about it. Between the loooooooooooooooonnng drawn out scenes, bad acting and stage setup.. It was horrible. Thinking this movie was going to be awesome like the other remakes (Snow White and the Huntsmen, The Great and Powerful Oz, etc). But ohhhh no.. It was nothing like that...  The gore scenes of the characters were pretty good makeup but all through this movie, I was like... "Oh my goodness.. When is this movie going to end." The writers and directors could've of made this movie a big hit if they had it set up.. I would not recommend anyone seeing this movie.. It reminded me something that a College Student would use as his or her's Freshmen year movie project. Ya know.. The ones who knew nothing about directing or acting and are just starting to learn the ropes. . :/ That bad..... There were only a few good parts to the movie but that was about it.

THE CALLER

-Horror/Thriller-
Director: Matthew Parkhill

RATING: 8/10

THESIS

Troubled divorcee Mary Kee is tormented by a series of sinister phone calls from a mysterious woman. When the stranger reveals she's calling from the past, Mary tries to break off contact. But the caller doesn't like being ignored, and looks for revenge in a unique and terrifying way.

MY THOUGHTS:

Well. This movie I personally think turned out very well and had a "Payback is Bi*ch" ending. Struggling through her divorce from her crazy and abusive husband, Mary tries to move on with her life. But when a woman mystiously calls her home phone seeking a "friend", things turns towards the creepy side. This woman from the "Past" realizes she can change future by changing things in Mary's home or on Mary herself. During her (Mary) fight for life and sanity, she tries to find a way out from this strange caller's madness. Throughout this movie, there was a lot of suspense, drama, and some parts, sexual content. There is hardly any gory scenes in this move. The reason why I gave it a 8/10 rating is because, there was a couple of scenes where I was like. "what?" or "Wait.. What happened?" But overall, this was a pretty good movie. Wait until you see the phone that is used in the apartment,  it made me feel old.. hahaha.

The Cost of Being Free

“The Cost Of Being Free”
By: Ashley M. Ashley  c-2009 MD

1) It’s that time of Year,
The celebration of Independence Day.
Where you will hear,
The people's cheer on this special day.
But what questions me,
As I watch the fireworks go up then fall.
Are the heros of America actually happy,
Of what has become of us all?
They fought for this land,
So it’s people could be free.
But does the American people truly understand,
Independence Day true meaning?

(Chorus)
**The cost of being free,
Costed the lives of many women and men.
The breaking of hearts of families,
The wall of names built in remembrance.
The land full of tombs,
Where our fallen lay.
The continuing of sending of our troops,
To continue fighting for us today.
This is what it cost,
For this land and its people to be free.
It's lives that were lost,
The cost of being free**

2) Today you will see family and friends,
Wearing their military loved one's face with pride.
On a shirt or hat and wearing a smile,
But just take a look into their eyes.
Then you can see the pain,
Of them having to let their loved one(s) go.
So they can fight to keep us safe,
But if they will be safe, it’s always hard to know.
But then there are some people out there,
Who just want to play and pretend.
Think nothing of July 4th,
Just a time of games and partying.
Who say they stand for America,
But when asked to help they run away.
Who say they are role model Americans,
But stay stoned or drunk all day.
Who take their freedom for granted,
Not thinking how they got it or from who.
But the question I really want to ask,
Does that sound like a true American to you?

Chorus**
The cost of being free,
Costed the lives of many women and men.
The breaking of hearts of families,
The wall of names built in remembrance.
The land full of tombs,
Where our fallen lay.
The continuing of sending of our troops,
To continue fighting for us today.
This is what it cost,
For this land and its people to be free.
It's lives that were lost,
The cost of being free**

3) It’s our brothers, sisters, children,
Mothers, fathers, friends.
Husbands, wives, our family in Military,
Who are the ones willing to defend.
This big country of ours,
This land of the brave and free.
They're the reason why today,
Us Americans are celebrating.
So let us all clap our hands,
And give remembrance and praise.
To the ones who lives were lost,
And to the ones still fighting for America today..

"Warm Bodies"

--Comedy, Horror, Romance--
Director: Jonathan Levine
Writers: Jonathan Levine (Screen Play), Isaac Marion (Novel)

RATING: 8.5/10

THESIS:

After R (a highly unusual zombie) saves Julie from an attack, the two form a relationship that sets in motion a sequence of events that might transform the entire lifeless world.

OUR THOUGHTS:

This is a movie (as you can obviously tell) is about ZOMBIES. But is not just any zombie movie that you may come across in the horror section in your local video store. This is a tale of two different people, one alive and one dead, making a change in the world just by using love. Ashley: "To me, to sum it all up, this is a chick flick movie but in zombie style. They both fall in love and love conquers all.  lol" Goldie: "I loved this movie." The reason why it has a 8.5 out of 10 rating because it was at some points it seemed to drag on but the plot stayed on track. Sometime when the character would "Think" it was like... okay... lets get with on with more action. But it did have a great ending. Just there was some parts to it we both were "What tha??????"   So that is why it got the rating it got.

Rating: 10/10

THESIS:

The ancient war between humans and a race of giants is reignited when Jack, a young farmhand fighting for a kingdom and the love of a princess, opens a gateway between the two worlds.
OUR THOUGHTS:

Based on the children story Jack and Beanstalk, this adult version is filled with lots of adventure, action, drama and even some comedy. This movie will have you sitting at the edge your seat wondering what is going to happen next. Ashley: "I thought this movie had a very good plot line from the beginning, middle, and finally at the very end. It did not have any breaks or even drawn out scenes. I just could not wait what would happen next." Goldie: It was awesome. That is all I can really say about it. Especially since I don't normally watch these types of movies. I was very impressed and loved it!" The only thing we need to tell to parents that it does have a lot of violent and some scenes that can be gory/ghastly to some. Ashley: "Gory in my opinion is the movie "The Hills have Eyes" so I would say this is more ghastly. No blood.. Just parts flying everywhere." Goldie: "Yeah, there is no blood I don't think but they made sure the audience knew what was happening to give them an idea."

So that is why we gave this movie a 10 out of 10 because the plot line was on track, was very suspenseful and we just absolutely loved it!

Our Thoughts:

This movie is basically  making fun of the movie Paranormal Activity. It does the same thing as the other movie called "Scary Movie" has done about movies in the past. It might as well apart of the "Scary Movie" Franchise. lol But anyways, at the beginning of this movie, it may seem as if it might be drawn out but that does not last long at all. Through out this whole movie, we were laughing almost the whole time. But when it got to the point between the middle and end of the movie, it was a little drawn out. Goldie: "It was like they ran out of ideas." Ashley: "Or they was trying to give everyone some breathing time from  laughing so hard." But other than that, it was a great movie filled with lots of  laughs and is NOT decent for children!!! Oh my goodness, I will not say why but you HAVE to see this movie. There is a lot of funny sexual explicit scenes along with language. Ashley: "At least they only said Gosh Dern (You know what I mean) once or twice through out the movie from what I recall." So that is why we both agreed that this movie rating gets 9/10.

Book/Novel Reviews: "The Bone Garden"

"The Bone Garden"

By: Tess Gerritsen

Rating: 8/10

Thesis:
Boston, present day: Julia Hamill assumes the unyielding object in her stony garden is either a rock or a root. Until she finds herself staring into the empty eye sockets of a human skull. Medical examiner Maura Isles soon identifies the remains as those of a woman murdered almost two centuries ago. But was she? And who killed her?
Harvard Medical School, 1830: Young med student Norris Marshall has reluctantly taken work as a resurrectionist-- raiding graveyards for fresh corpses. Meanwhile, a rash of cadavers surface as a serial killer launches a reign of terror over Boston-- leaving Norris a suspect. In hopes of cleaning his name, Norris enlists a classmate to help track the maniac. What ensues is deadly chess match between ingenious opponents through graveyards and hidden slaughterhouses. And now two centuries later, its up to Maura Iles to determine how this bloody game ended.

My thoughts:

I ran across this book at the make shift library at the facility I work for.  It looked kind of interesting so I decided to read it for myself. At first I was distracted by the "Large Print" version of this book. I understand that it is actually for those who have some vision problems (Needing bifocals). But it eventually over came that when I started reading this book. I noticed that it indeed switched back and forth from the past to present but the author noted with each chapter of the time swap. That was very helpful and made it less confusing but there still, there were moments where I had to go back to the previous chapter (For that time period) to refresh my memory. But be pre-wared, this book is not for the weak stomach. Only because back in the 1830's, universities used actual dead bodies in the class room to instruct. Meaning they sliced open the body and removed it's contents in a classroom filled with medical students and students had to get involved with this. Where now-a-days, we dissect frogs, pigs and cats in lab class. This book goes in depth with each body and describing the smell. As a medical student and worker myself, I found this detail with fascination and wanted to learn more. Towards the end, this book had me wanting to read faster and find out its end, and the true killer. I recommend this book especially to those who may be interested in the medical field and who love suspense along with the power of love.

Wanted to Cheat

I miss your touch,
I miss your lips against mine.
My heart breaks more with each day that passes,
Knowing that you never again will be mine.

I miss the smell of your colonege,
Waking up every morning with you right next to me.
Still hard to believe your gone.
All because I wanted to cheat.

To cheat on this love we had,
To cheat on the memories we have made and shared.
To take a chance on your heart,
Now broken in pieces so small, it may never be repaired.

To cheat on your trust,
And your faith in me.
I was the reason for destroying our love.
Because I wanted to cheat.

There is nothing I can do now,
Only wish that you can forgive me.
For not seeing what we really had,
For messing up everything.

I love you so much,
I wish I could go back and change that day.
I never realized what love really was before.
Until you went away.

Your are my whole life,
My reason to breathe.
But I made the mistake of destroying it.
Only because I wanted to cheat...

You inspire me,
With your belief in me.
With your belief in others,
Pushing us all to achieve our goals and dreams.

You inspire me,
To never be afraid.
To always stand for my beliefs,
Never to run away.

You inspire me,
To get back up when I fall.
To jump over each obstacle,
And to always stand up tall.

Your smile alone,
Brightens even the darkest days.
Always remaining positive,
When negativity tries to come your way.
When there is ever a doubt,
You remind me that hope is on the way.
It's because I have friends like you,
That makes this life easier each day.

That is why you inspire me,
To follow my dreams.
To never give up hope,
But most importantly... Because you believed in me..

Always Stay

There is a thickness in the air,
Restricting me from breathing.
The sensation of happiness has gone,
Leaving only a sadness feeling.
Looking toward the news,
Another tragedy has happened today.
Between the bombing and explosions,
I know now that no one is safe.

I mourn for those lives lost,
Lives of familes destroyed today.
I wish there is something I could do,
To make their pain and tears go away.
It was all of a sudden,
And there was nothing could have been done.
But in the mist of the pain and tears,
We ask GOD why he let this happen.

But I continue to keep my faith in HIM,
And try to move on.
Keep praying for those families of those vicitims,
And continue to stay strong.
My heart aches for you all,
I shed my tears for you along the way.
May GOD continue to be with you all,
For he will never leave your side, but will always stay.

*This is in memory for the lives lost and destroyed by the tragedies from the Boston Marathon and Waco, Texas explosions. *

He Does Not Know

He Does Not Know

Day dreaming about him,
With the feeling as if I am floating on thin air.
Heart pumping fast with anticipation,
In hopes that he will be there.
At every single place or around each corner I go,
My heart beats so hard, as if it is about to come out of my chest,
But yet.. He does not know.

Does not know of this feeling I have,
Fills up my soul with lust and desire,
Even with every simple touch,
This love I have for him feels like pleasure combine with the burn by fire.
Even though it hurts, I yearn for more.
The smell of his cologne……his touch…. his kiss..
The thought of having his lips against mine,
That would fully grant this girl’s true wish.
But yet…. he does not know……..

I wait until the day he notices me,
Notices the girl he sees just as a friend.
The friend he can always relay on to be there for him,
Never knowing how much love I have for him from within.
Within this heart of mine,
I want to tell this world I love him so.
But yet… I sit quietly by his side as his friend,
Due to the fear of rejection, the way I truly feel about him,
He may never know…
